Changes to the Federal Tax Credit for Energy Efficiency
One of the most important items to point out is that the reduction in tax credits does NOT affect geothermal equipment, as that tax credit remains in effect until 2016.
However, there are important changes to be aware of going forward. The tax credits have been extended through 2011, but at a reduced level. Here are some key points:
As of Jan. 1, 2011, a homeowner can claim 10% of the cost of installation, capped at $500, on qualified HVAC improvements. The maximum a homeowner can claim is $300 for a qualified central air conditioner and heat pump, and $150 for a qualified furnace or hot water boiler, and $50 for any advanced main air circulating fan.
The qualifying standards for gas furnaces remains at 95% AFUE. Central A/C and air source heat pump standards remain unchanged. Central A/C must meet or exceed 16 SEER and 13 EER and an aiir source heat pump must meet or exceed 15 SEER and 12.5 EER and 8.5 HSPF
Oil furnaces now must meet the 95% AFUE standard
The new law reinstates the lifetime credit caps, which disqualify any homeowner who has claimed more than $500 in 25c tax credits since Jan. 1, 2005, from any further credits.
NOTE: Not all Energy Star qualified products qualify for a tax credit.

Geothermal training schedule
Increasing interest in geothermal and water source systems is reflected in the increased demand for training. Heat Controller has been doing its part to meet that increased demand with its two-day geothermal/water source training course, which is certified for continuing education credits through NATE.
Classes for 2011 are limited and filling up, so distributors, contractors and any other interested party must act fast to take part in the course.
CLASS SCHEDULE IS AS FOLLOWS:
• September 14-15 at Heat Controller headquarters in Jackson, MI
• November 9-10 at Heat Controller headquarters in Jackson, MI
A $300 registration fee is due in advance (50% of the cost can be charged to co-op). Classes fill up quickly, so registration forms should be submitted as soon as possible (space is limited to 16-20 students per session)
